minutes from downtown Fort Worth, on County Road outside 915 Joshua — far enough that people say the true thing.
About the practice · 915 Joshua, TX
It’s one room, one coach, and a basket by the door.
Velvet Compass is a single-office executive coaching practice at 7801 County Road. No cohort, no app, no framework you have to memorise. Just the newly promoted director in the chair, and the person across from them who has watched a few hundred people make the same leap.
How it started
A promotion, a bad first quarter, and a spare farmhouse room
Velvet Compass began the way most of our clients’ problems do — with a good manager handed a job nobody explained. After fourteen years running teams inside two operations companies, our founder got promoted into a VP seat and spent the first quarter doing the previous job faster instead of the new one at all.
The fix, it turned out, wasn’t a book or a seminar. It was nine unhurried conversations with someone who’d done the same math. We built the practice around that: ninety minutes at a time, out of a converted room at the back of the farmhouse, far enough from the office that people say the true thing.
We’ve stayed deliberately small. One coach, one client in the room, one engagement invoiced once. That’s not modesty — it’s the only way the work stays honest.
You don’t have to be in crisis to book.
Most people come in around month three of the new title — early enough that the habits haven’t set, late enough that they know which ones are the problem.

Six things we do the same way every time
Ninety minutes, and we stop
Sessions are ninety minutes and they end on time. The clock is part of the method — it forces the real thing to the front instead of letting it drift out somewhere near minute 150.
One person in the chair
We don’t run groups or cohorts for 1:1 work. The engagement is you and the coach — the only exception is the offsite, which is a different animal by design.
The 360 is interviews, not a quiz
Fourteen structured conversations with people who work with you, transcribed and read back. No four-colour quadrants, no scores out of ten, nothing that reads like a horoscope.
Invoiced once, net-15
Every program is a fixed price billed one time. There is no monthly meter, no retainer that renews on its own, and no session you didn’t schedule showing up on a bill.
What’s said in the room stays in the room
We don’t report back to whoever paid the invoice. Your manager gets a start date and a finish date; the contents belong to you.
If it isn’t working by session three, we say so
Coaching isn’t right for everyone or every moment. If the fit’s wrong we’ll tell you at session three and settle up for what we’ve used — not the whole program.
Who you’ll actually sit with
Every session, the same two ears
Founder & coach
Fourteen years running operations teams, two of those years spent learning the VP job the hard way, and eleven years since coaching the people going through the same thing. Certified through an ICF-accredited program, but that matters less than the fact that the promotion you’re staring at is one that’s already been survived across this table.
There is no associate you get handed off to and no bench of junior coaches. You book Velvet Compass, you get Velvet Compass — start to finish, session one to session nine.

days a week the door’s open: Tuesday through Saturday until 5pm, Sundays until 4. Mondays we read transcripts.
basket by the door. Phones go in it. The single most useful piece of furniture we own.
The first ninety minutes tells us both a lot.
You bring the promotion and the thing that’s already going sideways. We’ll tell you honestly whether coaching is the right fix — or whether you just need to cancel two meetings.
Book the first ninety minutesOur belief
Nobody rises to the occasion. You fall to the level of the habits you built before it.
The eleven months after a promotion are when those habits get set. That’s the whole reason this practice exists — and the whole reason it stays this small.
